Gon might be a country boy, but he has high aspirations. Despite his Aunt Mito's protests, Gon decides to follow in his father's footsteps and become a legendary Hunter.

The Hunter hopefuls begin their journey by storm-tossed ship, where Gon meets Leorio and Kurapika, the only other applicants who aren't devastated by bouts of seasickness. Having survived the terrors of the high seas, Gon and his companions now have to prove their worth in a variety of tests in order to find the elusive Exam Hall. And once they get there, will they ever leave alive? Sold by: Amazon. Gon and his friends Leorio and Kurapika have more to worry about than just the Hunter Exam--their fellow applicants are deadly serious.

Hisoka, the mad magician, nearly kills them in a mock test and Killua reveals that appearances can be deceiving. Then there are the tests, which prove to be as varied as they are difficult. The picky proctors of the second exam demand the applicants perform culinary feats of wonder, and it takes the intervention of the President of the Hunter Association Review Board to convince them to let anyone pass at all!

Gon and his teammates have been challenged by a group of criminals hired by the Hunter Association. Gon wins with wits, and Kurapika's red-eyed rage assures a victory. But Leorio is all out of luck, and loses precious time for his team. It's up to Killua to save the day with a gruesome display of his assassin skills.

With time running out, it takes ingenuity and brute force to beat the clock and the test. The fourth exam finds the team stranded on an island for a battle royale. Can Gon get the best of Hisoka, or will he be The fourth exam rages on as the Hunter hopefuls try to gain points by stealing each other's badges. Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio fall into a trap set for another applicant and must face a pit full of poisonous snakes.

When Leorio is bitten, Gon braves the snakes to snatch the antidote and a badge! Finally, the friends reach the end of the exams and the ultimate "reverse tournament"--the winner of each round automatically passes the Hunter exam, but the defeated keep competing against each other until the last candidate standing fails the exam. Killing an opponent means immediate failure--will Killua's rage stand in the way of his dream to become a Hunter?

Gon's new friend Killua may have run away from home, but that doesn't mean his family is willing to let him leave. Killua's parents sent his older brother Illumi to keep an eye on him during the Hunter Exam, and now Illumi has convinced Killua to return to the family business of assassination. Gon is convinced that Killua must have been brainwashed, and sets out with Leorio and Kurapika to make an intervention. But before the newly licensed Hunters can try to talk some sense into Killua, they have to make it past the unstoppable guard beast that is trained to eat all visitors!

Gon and Killua have split off from the rest of the group to spend the next six months training at Heavens Arena. But despite the skills they came in with, the friends are quickly outmatched by another young fighter who can access the mysterious power called "Nen. Do they have what it takes to become Nen masters?

When Gon successfully completes the Nen teachings, he also passes the final and secret test of the Hunter Exam. But more importantly, Hisoka has finally deigned to accept Gon's challenge! Can Gon get close enough to pay Hisoka back for the favor on Zevil Island, or will the insane magician send Gon home in pieces? Gon's going home to share his Hunter success with Aunt Mito, but Whale Island has a surprise in store for Gon--a message from his father to "come and find me. But the game is so rare it can only be found at the Yorknew auction--for an astronomical price.

And anyone who plays gets sucked into the game, never to return! Is that where Ging has gone? Gon needs to earn enough money to make a bid on the game, but there's not much time left. And the evil Phantom Troupe have plans of their own for the auction…. The day of the great auction arrives, but all the goods have gone missing! It turns out that the mafia learned of the Spiders' plans and sent their top ten fighters to take care of things.

These "Shadow Beasts" whisked away the auction items to safety, and the dread Spiders are hunting them down. With all this distraction and some questionable help from Hisoka, Kurapika gets closer to vengeance against the Spiders. But when the fight comes down to a battle to the death with one of the strongest members of the troupe, will Kurapika's hidden powers be enough to ensure victory?

Gon's mighty adventure in search of his father continues, and this time he is forced to pawn his own Hunter license to raise some cash. Gon and his posse chance upon a silent auction bazaar along the way and meet a stranger named Zepile, who introduces them to the seedy world of rare item appraisal.

But the real trickery lies in Nobunaga's effort to recruit Gon to join the Troupe! Gon, Killua, Leorio and Kurapika are finally reunited.

Kurapika tells the gang that he made a Nen covenant to strengthen his ability by setting limits on it--all for the bargain price of his death if he ever uses Chain Jail against anyone who's not a Spider.

Meanwhile, the Mafia is researching the members of the mysterious and deadly Troupe, but even the most foolproof database contains no information on them. But there's only one place where goons can avoid registration: Meteor City, the junkyard of the world! The Spiders unravel the clues that will bring them ever closer to Kurapika's identity. Meanwhile, Kurapika's desire for revenge is rekindled when he learns that the Spiders are still alive.

And though the bounty on the Spiders has been withdrawn, Gon persuades Killua to help Kurapika awhile longer, if only to bring the cycle of killing to an end. Then, during a mad chase through the crowded streets of Yorknew, the Spiders capture Gon and Killua again!

Will Kurapika and Leorio be able to set them free? And will Kurapika finally get his revenge? Hunters Gon and Killua have fallen into the clutches of the sinister gang known as the Spiders. Luckily, the Hunters' friend Kurapika has captured the Spiders' ringleader and proposed a hostage exchange.

Will the Spiders agree to the plan? Meanwhile, a multi-trillionaire named Battera has been buying up copies of the super-rare video game Greed Island , which may contain clues about Gon's father's whereabouts. More importantly, Battera has been hiring Hunters to play the game for him!

Could this be Gon's chance to enter the legendary game? The multi-trillionaire Battera hires Gon and Killua to play the Greed Island video game for him, just as the two had hoped. But when they enter the game and head to a nearby town, they stumble onto one of the game's dark secrets. Greed Island isn't just a game--it has real-life consequences that can spell life or death for the players involved.

And it isn't long before the Spiders enter the game themselves! Gon and Killua are so incompetent at fighting the monsters on Greed Island that a Hunter named Biscuit has taken pity and offered to coach them in the use of their Nen powers. But the clock is ticking, for a violent player known as "the Bomber" has a plan to get his hands on all but ten of the item cards in one fell swoop. Gon and friends are settling into Greed Island and slowly beginning to understand the strange mechanics of this "video game" world.

They gain enough clues from the NPC townspeople to finally get their quest: They must drive Razor and the 14 Devils out of town by beating them at sporting events. The first event--dodge ball! Except in this game if you don't dodge--you die!! In an unexpected turn of events, Gon, Killua, and their sometime enemy Hisoka pull off a stunning victory in a heated game of deadly dodge ball, working together to defeat Razor and his 14 Devils.

Meanwhile, a group of rival Hunters zap out for a meeting with the billionaire benefactor who has hired numerous hunters, including Gon, to solve the Greed Island game. There they make a shocking discovery that may very well make all of their struggles meaningless! Killua and Biscuit take on two Bombers in a fisticuff competition, and during the fight, Biscuit reveals her true shocking form! Meanwhile, Gon is set on getting revenge on Genthru no matter what the cost--including his own body parts!

Afterwards a strange event is triggered due to Gon having 99 cards--it's a multiple-choice quiz! But just what is the quiz about, and more importantly what can the prize possibly be?! Welcome to the country of NGL Neo-Green Life , a unique place led by an eco-group that's totally against any kind of technology! No metal, synthetic material or modern tools are allowed, and death is considered "nature's will. When Gon and friends arrive on the scene, will they too end up in the belly of the insect queen?

But first they need to increase their baseline stamina just to get to his level. Gon discovers that his windup leaves something to be desired--it sucks up all his energy until he passes out!

As big of a deal as the Association is, it isn't without flaws. As the series progressively shows, especially during the Chairman Election Arc, there is a long history of internal and political conflict among Hunters, as the line between total freedom and standardization for the Hunters is toed with blood. To shed some light on its greater cons, this list will be running down 10 things wrong with the Hunter Association. One of the biggest issues going in is the fact that the minimum age to take the Hunter Exam and join the Association is 12 years of age. To give them some credit, it's not as if just any regular kid is capable of passing the Exam let alone just find the testing ground. However, it's still discouraging to see the Association promote labor and its innate dangerous lifestyle to even kids.
